The 180 Degree Rule

The 180 Degree rule

In my media lesson today, we learnt about the 180 degree rule. This rule insists that in in every dialogue scene in films, of 2 characters talking to each other, they must be in a direct straight line for the filming to work. The camera man must revolve around a 180 degree semi circle around the characters for the filming to look good.

In this lesson, we also experimented a bit with how the concept of this will work. We tried filming a small little scene of two people talking. We tried our best to get the grips with this camera technique but, admittedly, it was a bit of a flop. It is alright, though, as we have figured out where we have gone wrong and, next time we film this type of technique, we will work on the rule a bit more until we get it good.
